[Request] Zombieman with a pistol
I've seen a Zombieman sprite in mods like Beautiful Doom and Quake Style which carries a pistol rather than the original rifle.
I would outright use something like this for personal use, but the sprites are not consistent in design. The blood you see on the original Z-man's chest is usually drawn to be consistent from any angle for every frame. Unfortunately this is not the case for the pistol version. It may seem like a minor gripe, but it's rather annoying when you notice it in game.
It's a neat idea for sure, just not properly perfected.

Found the sprites in question. Can anyone make the blood on this guy's chest be consistent between frames?

Never did like that huge barrel.

I love how his off-hand is just thrust out at an awkward angle, must be a new shooting technique. Something more like the Wolfenstein guard's attack (two handed) would be a pinch more appropriate than the "grabbing-the-air" motif this guy is sporting.

These sprites have potential for being good, there just flawed the way they are now. I think the other hand is like that because the original editor didn't bother the change the position of the hand from when it was gripping the rifle.
Re: [Request] Zombieman with a pistol
It's also because they were based off of Strife's Soldiers, who were edits of Doom sprites, the rifle/shotgun has been removed but the arm remains. I do remember seeing a sprite of a Zombieman armed with a pistol with his arm to his side.BlueFireZ88 wrote:These sprites have potential for being good, there just flawed the way they are now. Hmm, the only spriteset I can recall offhand (heh) with the hand 'fixed' is Hernandez from WW's Diaz mod (or was it the eponymous character's skin from the Hernandez mod beta? Can't remember). I do recall it hanging kinda stiff and not moving naturally, but it's a step in the right direction. Still not a zombieman though.

Re: [Request] Zombieman with a pistol
I dunno, I kinda like the "style hand". Personally I think it looks better than having the arm hanging limp, especially with the leg movements they have. (If they had a more short-stride, sedated walk it could work.)
... Hard to describe exactly why, though. I guess having the hand up gives a "ready to strike" look, while having it hang down is more of a "my arm is broken but I've got a gun" look.
A compromise would probably turn out well - Put the elbow down but leave the forearm/hand forward.
Of course, when you're using sprite mirroring on an asymmetrical set, it's kind of difficult to push the "more natural" look.

Re: [Request] Zombieman with a pistol
What it should probably be is neither of "style hand" nor "lowered arm" options. I think it would probably make most sense if the arm was raised but bent across the body slightly, rather than out to the side, in a more natural symmetrical way.
This very, very rough proof of concept, simply made by chopping the lower half of the arm off and mirroring it, shows the kind of thing I mean.

(Already I can see that the arm is too high in that pic but I think the basic idea is sound.)
[edit] Perhaps ever so slightly better:

Hobo with a Shotgun?
Zombieman holding pistol edits have always looked odd because of that extra arm, maybe his arm should be bent a bit at the elbow sideways?

@HellCattX: His arm looks like it's broken. I think it should be bent a little instead of being line-straight.
Personally, I never liked the "arm hanging in the air" style. I always thought it was weird that the arm is hanging in that position.

Re: [Request] Zombieman with a pistol
The problem is that he really should look like this
While Enjay's edit makes him look less like he's cradling Yorick's skull, it still looks a bit silly for his one hand to not be doing anything. Back maybe 60 years ago or more, most armies did not teach a 2-handed pistol shooting stance. The stance they taught involved rotating your body with your lead leg closer to your target, and your arm fully extended. Your opposite arm would rest behind at your side. So interestingly it would be more appropriate for the pistol zombieman to use a two-handed shooting style, and for the Wolfenstein guard to use a one-handed technique.
