[Resource Request] Duke Nukem Advance or Zero Hour
Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone could help me out with resources (sounds/sprites/textures/etc) from Duke Nukem Advance (for GBA) or Duke Nukem: Zero Hour (for N64). I've tried both, but I really have no idea what I'm doing and I was wondering if someone more experienced could take a crack at it.

I believe I can get you resources from the GBA version and possibly from Zero Hour later on, but first, does anybody know of the 'legality' of obtaining and using these resources?

Your new here aren't you?
Re: [Resource Request] Duke Nukem Advance or Zero Hour
If you can still grab a copy of Nuclear Showdown, I know it has the HUD for Duke Nukem Advance (though you may have already known that)
Re: [Resource Request] Duke Nukem Advance or Zero Hour
Ya, at least to the community. I'm no stranger to the engine itself, I just haven't had high-speed internet until now.Trooper 077 wrote:Your new here aren't you?
Re: [Resource Request] Duke Nukem Advance or Zero Hour
I think his post was a (rather un-called-for) remark about how the Doom community generally doesn't mind game resource rips (and in fact cherishes them if they're done well).
Legally speaking, using another game's resources in a Doom mod would be a "Don't do that!" moment, but most of us follow the long-cherished "We don't care!" model as long as it requires some sort of parent game in order to run.

Well, I for one agree with the "I don't care!" model also

It seems that for Duke Nukem Advance, it's just an ugly remake of Duke Nukem 3d, with some different sprites (and one new weapon) so it might just be easier to get some resources from DN3D. In the mean time, I'll work on getting some sprites outta this GBA game. I should have something for you by late tomorrow (Or today, depending on how you look at it.) Is there anything specific you want?

take a loot at my resources thread. i ripped the DNA desert eagle. it's only two frames (not counting the fire one, which is the same as the idle frame, except for the muzzle flash) and i had to modify it so as to look good on screen. anyway, it should be a good start for you.

Duke Nukem Advance is a pretty good FPS on a handheld console, in fact I don't think I have seen any good handheld FPS's that play so well on those consoles.
It also has some pretty interesting sprites, like the Desert Eagle, MP5, new alien types and bosses.

Duke 3D resources have been used to death in the Doom community. If the man wants something different let him have it.Akira_98 wrote:It seems that for Duke Nukem Advance, it's just an ugly remake of Duke Nukem 3d, with some different sprites (and one new weapon) so it might just be easier to get some resources from DN3D. I found the textures block in the ROM for Duke Nukem advanced but I'm probably not going to be able to properly rip them. I'll try my best though.

Re: [Resource Request] Duke Nukem Advance or Zero Hour
Thanks Globe, but yeah, I already knew about that. The creator of that mod, James Stanfield, has given me permission to use any resources from his modification.
Akira, yes, I'm aware of what DNA is and while what you say is essentially correct, it does have a lot of new material. I own Duke3D and I was actually asking for these resources because I think my mod could benefit from them, and I think some of the other people here could possibly use some of the resources as well. I'm not looking for anything in particular, but I would rate sounds from Zero Hour among the most important.
Also thanks to Akira, Dudu, Insanity Bringer, and anybody else who has spent any time on this.

Re: [Resource Request] Duke Nukem Advance or Zero Hour
I recorded some sounds and finished only 3 weapons so far.

I'll finish the other weapons and sounds within the next couple of days. I won't be able to get the new enemies, textures, sprites ect, due to how VBA's tools handle this game. It might be possible to rebuild the textures from screenshots, though that might be for somebody more talented and faster than me
Ill look into sounds for Zero Hour as soon as possible though.

Don't bother yourself with rebuilding textures from screenshots. Too bad you can't get some of the other stuff, but I figured as much. I couldn't really figure any of it out, myself. Thanks.
Re: [Resource Request] Duke Nukem Advance or Zero Hour
Alright, the order I'm doing this in is rather random, oh well.
I dumped the textures for Zero Hour's Map 1 (took all of 5 seconds
), but there seems to be a problem with them. Although they appear to be PNGs, sometimes, whenever I tried to rename them (you'll see their names changed in the file), the picture would change slightly. In the case of the monitors, the 'power' light will come on, and the number of lines on screen will change. I dunno if this is windows, or I'm mentally unstable, or what. Maybe somebody should take a look at them. Get it here: http://files.drdteam.org/index.php/file ... e-dump.zip
Also, the last new weapon from Duke Nukem Advance here:
http://files.drdteam.org/index.php/file ... rinker.zip
Later today/tonight/tomorrow I should have some weapon and ambiance sounds from Zero Hour.
*EDIT: Sorry about screwed up links, should be fixed now.
