Adjusting a BIGFONT file?

Post by Tormentor667 »

Attached you can find a BIGFONT in FON2 style that is actually without any bevel or border, though I really would like to make it look like this font:

How can I change that or is someone able to help me out with this?

Here is the FON2 file:

Imagetool can convert FON1, FON2, and LMP to PCX or BMP.

I'll take a look at it.

Okay, take your pick. I really hope the outline is thick enough because it's rather an arseache to rearrange the letters on the grid. :stuppor:

(The red ones are exactly the same as the white ones apart from being red, although the white ones might translate better in-game.)

For the ones on the right, I softened the noise on the letters and kept the outlines one shade, figured it'd look a little closer to the image you posted, Torm.

Important to note: the red ones are not strictly Doom palette, the outlines are a darker red than the normal red range goes. Shouldn't be a big deal in-game though.

Thanks alot for the explanation and even more thanks for doing this :) I'd prefer the white one if it translates better in game.

Here's another four variants for you to test in-game. Normal, softened, normal with 1px kerning, softened with 1px kerning. Recommend you use the kerned variant for whichever one you decide to use, since you'll be able to fit more text on-screen and it'll look heaps neater.

Let me know if the space character on the kerned variants needs expanding, as kerning will markably reduce the distance between letters, spaces included.

The one without the fine spacing between the glyph outlines that would let you fit a bit more text onscreen? Okay. :P

If I Understand it correctly, Kerning is the distance between the letters?

Yes. The kerned version narrows the space between the letters. Notice how the regular DBIGFONT does this.

No I got it, thanks for the explanation as well :)

By the way, feel free to submit the pack to the Realm667, no need to keep this project-exclusive for me only :)
