Random Sprite Edits

Post by FuzzballFox »

Was bored the other day, and made this..
Just a random edit of the SS people to change them into Nazi Doomguy people..kinda..XD
I didn't just stick on the Doomguy's head either, I edited so it fits in with the style of the Nazi sprites, and it turned out pretty well...
Did a few other misc changes too like the hands and changed a bit of shading on the general thing...
Image
Please excuse the lack of a gibbing frames, forgot about them at the time. (About 4 in the morning :P)
Feel free to use or edit these if you want..sorry I didn't stick them in a wad either, I didn't have the energy..XD

Skulltag skin? I've got just the sounds you'll need for that! Got these sounds from the German version of Jedi Outcast (you'd be surprised how well the German Stormtroopers work as futuristic Nazis).

Reminds me of that futuristic Wolf3D fansequel where Hitler changes history and you have to travel into the future to stop him or something... Astrostein I think it was called.

Skulltag already has too many nazis.

No, I'm not talking about the moderators. (Seriously, I'm joking.)

Oh yeah, the edits look quite cool but I think the head is too small. Just imagine him with the helmet off. He must be like Hauptmann Pinhead or something.

If that is the case, then the Doomguy's head must be small too! D:

True, the Doomguy is certainly a mutant (far too squat and, from the FP view, his eyes are in his chest). If you've ever imported sprites from a game where the enemies are of more normal proportions (I did with Dark Forces) and then scaled them to be the right height, they look very skinny and insubstancial compared to the Doomguy and his Zombie brothers.

The Wolf SS guy is proportioned differently to the Doomguy. He is still strange, but he needs the bigger head to loook right. The very characteristic proportions of the Wolf sprites is merely one of the reasons why they don't really sit well alongside Doom sprites IMO. To be fair though, the Doomguy helmet is too small even for the Doomguy. You can't cover a Zombieman head with the Doomguy helmet properly. Presumably a helmet would have some padding and not be skin-tight so it should be quite a bit bigger anyway.

[edit]Actually though, this doesn't look as bad as I thought it might...

Check out this edit I did of your sprite...

I think it looks pretty good.

There could be a whole human vs human wad done this way.

EDIT: Anyone consider ever making full rotations for the Wolf guys? Most don't have turned shooting and bosses don't turn at all.

For the blue SS in Doom 2, it's easy to find. For the others... Well, there's a guy doing a Wolf-themed invasion wad for Skulltag, there are some WIP angles for the bosses inside. For dogs and other nonboss enemies, I don't know.

I agree. It looks very good. The subdued green is a far better colour that the luminous blue of the original Nazi. Nice work on the face too. :)

Even worse for B.J. in Wolf 3D. (His viewheight is 9 mapunits LOWER than DoomGuy's!)

Skunk: I'm in love with that sprite. I like olive drab for uniforms, and I hope that a full sprite set gets made of that guy.

No, they can't.

Whatever weird file hosting system Doomworld's various hosted projects are on is crappy, because a lot of the links are broken--they'll take you to a download, sure, but it'll be something entirely different from what you wanted.

Also, I really dig the subdued green Nazi With Zombieman Head. Somebody finish that. (Although considering the SS's massive amounts of consistant blue, it shouldn't be too hard. Maybe I'll do it...) And of note--you colored part of the bottom half of his left leg grey like it's part of his boot, but it's part of his pants.

[Edit] Oh, yeah, this too:

I remember reading somewhere once that, originally in DOS resolutions, the screen was squished in horizontally slightly, and all the sprites were drawn to look good that way. So basically, every actor was designed to be slightly skinner and taller (and more resembling the Wolfenstein guys, who IIRC didn't have this problem) than their actual sprites show.
