Looking nice. This has a very "classic Raven Software" feel, like it could be a monster out of Black Crypt or Shadowcaster. So, are you... Are you Young Brian Raffel? :P

Your lighting during the fire attack looks great. I'd love to see more from-scratch monsters like this.

Seing what you're capable of I MUSt disagree...
Want to make it more "reals" eh? Try this: avoid black color, use very dark brown/red or something, and avoid black lines at all costs, and not too bright highlights. Sticking to toned colors (brown, grey, khaki, olive) rather than pure colors (red, green) or weird color combos (brown and green) seems to help, at least I believe so.
There are exceptions ofcourse, like the Cacos ;)

Well, the Cacodemons are far from realistic... but we love them all the same. Come to think of it, the shading on most user-generated content is a vast improvement over the original Doom monsters. I think it's because as modders, we often want to go for specific looks and themes (hence the gritty brown texture packs and such), so in certain mods, everything blends in style-wise. Monsters, weapons, decorations, textures, graphics, etc.

Indeed, DooM is somewhat of a mishmas of styles (though not to an extreme degree). There's the hand-drawn stuff, and some photorealistic stuff, and then some simple flat-shaded textures.

For example, compare the shotgun's ready frame to the first post-firing frame. And compare the various hanging corpses.

There's quite a bit of "wiggle-room" inside the concept of "DooM style". So many still manage to miss it though. :(

Raven's style is a little more "artsy" - IMO it's a more fun style (and palette set) to work in.

My one complaint is his "forward" leg in the first and third walking sprites. With the way he's standing, it looks like someone doing a stereotypical Russian folk-dance. I'd suggest an animation more like the imp, where he's not putting his foot so far forward.

But otherwise, it looks ABSOLUTELY excellent.
