Re: [SPRITES] Spriting Carnival!!
Materials vary a lot. You really don't know what material that shotgun is and what your silly blender cube is, cause you know it could be a dark metal, it could be a painted metal, it could be fucking metal paint stuff of blacker shade, who knows? Shit it could be even rub colouring, coal based, oil based, how the fuck do we know?
I don't know why such a big deal is made of the slight wood reflection, it gives it a nice touch and it could also be like inteprented as, i dont know, small rust, sulfur, wood chip/rubbing depending on the viewer?
If you wanna go full colour game, you're gona have to start analyzing the material in questions so we can know exactly how reflective it would be IRL wise to the sprite here. And I don't think anyone here wants that.
In short: your cubes are stupid.
Edit: I'mma do a short check up on this shotgun in a bit
Edit2: Ok
If we wanna start going deeper on this looking at it in its current shape this is very plauslble look for a shiny shiny gun, but it would imply the bottom "wooden" part would be made of copper or similiar metal for the shines to be as strong as they currently are. Black colours can, and will give shiny shiny highlights specially if they are metal/reflective surface. Now cause Bloaxes gun here looks brand new, sure, it looks shiny and brand new under light, cause I assume that was the assumination with his "shiny shiny" comment. If it was more used, the reflective value would go down ofcourse with rougher surface and so on.
Ofcourse this sprite might cause slight issues with this aswell ingame wise cause it does imply a bit of light use.

Eh. It's not bad, but it's a tad too shiny for my tastes.

I get the impression that Blox kinda likes to play around with shading and stuff a good bit. Some of his stuff needs to be reigned in a bit more when it's something being used in-game.Hege Cactus wrote:Ofcourse this sprite might cause slight issues with this aswell ingame wise cause it does imply a bit of light use.

I'm not saying it's bad either, I never did. I'm just saying it looks like plastic and that it's too shiny for looking like plastic.SuperSomariDX wrote:Eh. It's not bad, but it's a tad too shiny for my tastes.
I ACTUALLY kind of like it, but the shading just needs work, all I'm saying.

Re: [SPRITES] Spriting Carnival!!
It is a great edit, but the barrel is shaded a little strangely. I canwput my finger on it, but it's there.
Re: [SPRITES] Spriting Carnival!!
The weirdness is due to angle of the highlight, which is somewhat off due to it looking like shit when I tried to align it along the barrel.
You're more than welcome to fix it up, I'm certainly not getting anything of what the hell you're on about.TheGreatBalony wrote:the shading just needs work, all I'm saying.

Re: [SPRITES] Spriting Carnival!!
Eriance and countless other weapon spriters add color reflections to weapons as well. I think it'd be a stretch to say it looks universally horrible.Hege Cactus wrote:I don't know why such a big deal is made of the slight wood reflection, it gives it a nice touch and it could also be like inteprented as, i dont know, small rust, sulfur, wood chip/rubbing depending on the viewer?
As for the barrel being lit from two directions, that's not at all uncommon either. particularly when working from actual models, that's the only way to not have the unlit parts of the model be entirely black. It also enhances the apparent "roundness". Oh, and you can even see the effect on numerous Doom sprites, which were sampled from actual photographs!
Anyway I think Blox's sprite is just fine.
Baloney, seriously, chill out.
A flash that small looks comical on such a heavy-looking gun.Blox wrote:i am not good at small muzzleflashes
Maybe I'm crazy but I think ROTT's guns had a good take on gunflashes. So much so that I borrow them frequently.
