Sounds cut abruptly

Post by Gez »

Here's a simple test wad containing two sound samples and a map to listen to them. Shoot Commander Keen or John Romero and listen to their pain sounds.

Their screams work okay in PrBoom, but not in ZDoom. I don't think it's an SDL vs. FMOD issue because Eternity cuts these sounds as well.

Just noticed entryway made a thread about it on Doomworld. Andrew's diagnostic makes sense.

Interesting, even the sound preview in DeePsea cuts them at the same place as Zdoom. Prboom does seem to be the only port I've found that plays them properly. [edit] And EDGE [/edit]

Yes, but PrBoom is doing it wrong. The sounds contain a length field which it ignores.

It seems that you are quite correct. Exporting the files, resaving them in Goldwave, then sticking them back in the WAD allows Zdoom to play them fully.
