Super Map Compilation Megawad!

Post by Gardevoir »

Super Map Compilation Pack!

Well hello there everyone! After few months, I and a bunch of kind people from Zandronum and DoomWorld communities managed to create a 30 level Megawad!
People have submitted lots of different levels and we choose the best 30. (Unfortunately no map with a secret exit, therefore no secret maps.)
Maps were done in different mapping formats ranging from good ol' boom, through zdoom and to udmf. There are some classics as well as ACS filled levels full of riddles!
All levels differ from eachother in terms of difficulty and gameplay, allowing for fast paced and awesome gameplay. Have fun blazing through this one!

Have fun everyone!

Very impressive!

I played the first two maps and I have to say WOW! I will definitely play them ALL.

But honestly I have to say that it turns out to be unplayable unfair when playing it with "Brutal Doom LITE 0.19". I would have to play with IDFA due to insufficent Ammo and in GOD Mode. Otherwise I would die all the time immediately.

So I do NOT recommend to play it with Brutal Doom Lite as long as there is no difficulty settings compatibility . I did not test the normal Brutal Doom, my Laptop has insufficent power, so I can´t test it. But should be easier to play ´cause you start with the rifle not with the pistol.

Finally, a mappack that has brought my attention. Maps are very nicely done, the texturing is beast and the gameplay's just too good to describe with words :p Lots of good work!

I apologize ahead of time for ranting and probably blowing my top a little for saying this but...

Do the words 'Super Map' imply that the map is NOT MEANT for casual players, hardcore l33t doomgod players only? That's my impression after ragequitting after making it 1/3 to halfway through the first level. Now granted, I was using Brutal DooM SE, but more because of how fast the weapons work and the and the hand-to-hand fighting options, but even then the monster placement on just the first level tells me this was NOT made with casual players in mind, only made with players in mind who don't have much of a life outside of DooM monster slaughtering.

First post needs a disclaimer that this wad is NOT for casual players who can't spend hours and hours on end day after day playing.

Entirely agree with WARCHILD_89

Great maps but a bit too unbalanced and unfair (Cyberdemons, Archviles and Spidermasterminds in the same room are hard enough but mixing them with lots(understatement) chaingunners, shotgunners and cacodemons with some pain elementals in the pack might be a bit excessive  )

Seriously i had to play it with my own Predator mod to limit my death counts. Not to mention the removal of all weapons, armor and health bonuses picked up in the previous map when entering the next one is not a good idea at all.

If i may suggest one thing, reduce the enemy count for each map. I mean having over 600 enemies for a map is a bit excessive considering the limited arsenal the player has access to.

In short the maps are well designed and fun to play but the only downside is the number of enemies compared to the arsenal it make most maps unplayable if played without a mod boosting weapon's damages because the default weapons aren't enough to get rid of so many enemies at the same time.

THIS. I did not realize this either, but this NEEDS to be rectified ASAP for this levelpack to be any bit popular. In fact, I may myself dig into the wad's code and see if I remove that problem myself before I even try to play this with Russian Overkill.

EDIT: To others who have downloaded this WAD already, to remove the limitation of having your inventory and health reset after every level, jump into MAPINFO and remove the following two lines:

Code: Select all

ResetInventory
ResetHealth
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND to the project authors they implement this fix into a re-release of this project ASAP, otherwise if they leave it as is, this project WILL crash n' burn for being unplayably difficult. I'm gonna try this pack with Russian Overkill now after removing the health and inventory resets.

*facepalm* Dang, what a 'gotcha' this wad was! This was a dang good April Fools joke that I fell for big time!

Gotta say though, impressive use of ZDoom features in many levels to pull all sorts of hilariously good gags.

Happy April Fools day.

Some trivia for those who do not visit Zandronum forums - once upon a time, there was held a Shitty Map Contest. It was exactly what it says on the tin - the goal was to make the most humanely shitty map ever possible. The maps were judged, assigned scores, and put into a compilation pack, with maps ordered from those with lowest scores(and therefore best) to those with highest scores(and therefore worst), last five maps being out-of-contest. This is why the first two maps were playable - one of the contestants purposely aimed to get the last place(and therefore submitted actually playable map) and the second one just has very bad understanding of the whole "shitty" concept.

And then, much later, this was released completely untouched here as April Fools under the guise of serious megawad.

Fun times.

inb4 i get shot for saying this

Figured

The sad part is since it's an april fouls wad it's probably won't be improved to become a fairly good wad.

But i must admit i've been had on this one :P

Weirdly, I like the concept, it's kinda like going deeper into hell in a more "meta" or "4th wall" sense

These maps are crap, but some of them still could be the base for building them up until they get well...
