The Floor Is Lava

Post by Jimmy »

Download

Demons have invaded your home and turned the floor into lava.

Your only ally is the furniture. ...And all the heavy armaments and medical supplies you have littered all over your house for some godforsaken reason.

Try and beat the par time!

Name: The Floor Is Lava
Music: "Jimmy Kane" by Muse (MIDI)
Port: ZDoom (Map Format: UDMF)
Build Time: Fuck knows
Requirements: Jumping, crouching, freelook, and possibly mad skillz.

This is for Doomworld's "let's make a mad megawad" project. A short, very silly map, designed to be aggravating as balls. Co-op supported (that is, there are co-op starts).

Might add a second (slightly shorter) area after you find the exit.
Spoiler: Screenshots

Looking at the screenshots, none of the floors actually are lava.

...not yet.

Sorry for posting this so much but I don't see it in the screenshots so just throwing it out there

This wad looks pretty interesting. I'm a sucker for home/realistic area maps. Or even more abstract ones. I'll give it a try tomorrow.

(off-topic: is there anyway to change the size of the crosshair besides the "scale in hi res" option? I'd like a crosshair but a tad bigger.

The lack of lava is kind of the point, because in the actual "game", all the lava is of course merely imaginary. :P Plus the lack of distinguishable instant-death surfaces is a sort of central gameplay mechanic in this map (silly though it is). :P

in case you haven't already, you should probably force uncheck infinite tall actors if you're going to jump on top of things in the game.

If you play with that option enabled, I can safely assure you you're gonna have a bad time.

But okay. Updated.

How do you do this kind of thing?

Back on topic: watched Tarnsman playing it some hours ago, I can't say jumping in Doom is my cup of tea, but that's a very creative and unique concept, for sure! And that toaster is the best :)

Aha, thanks. :D

Updated again to fix the stove which can now be turned off properly, and the red key sequence-break that Tarnsman and Blackfish both found in their playthroughs.

Recorded myself playing your original version

No gripes besides the lack of obvious direction, I had no idea where I was supposed to go.

Spoiler:
Lol @ the last ten seconds.

It's been updated again to address a couple of minor issues like incorrect death messages. I've also made the left-hand window at the start impassible.

There's also a computer map included. Not telling you where it is. :P
