City Assault

Post by Sergeant_Mark_IV »

During an assault into an infested city, a group of marines were pinned down by a Cyberdemon. You are sent with an armoured convoy to rescue these marines, but the convoy got ambushed. You escape, but you need to proceed on foot.

Jumping is required to play this level.

This was supposed to be a speedmap, and don't take longer than 6 hours, but many problems appeared with UDMF format (many sectors were breaking with no reason, and the Doom Builder bug searching tools couldn't find the reasons, so after many time trying to find and fix these sectors, I decided to convert the map to Doom in Hexen format and some areas had to be re-planned), and it ended up taking more than 10~12 hours.

This map play very differently if compared with my other city maps. This map doesn't has a sandbox felling, and is a bit more linear.

This map also attempts to recreate Doom 2's Tenements map. But since that map is way too much abstract, this map doesn't resembles that map at all.

Looks cool, very urban - one of my favourite map settings. :)

Good fun. It has a good feeling of a devastated city. I liked the fire escape hopping (and I don't normally like jumping puzzles).

There are a few errors printed to the console at startup.

Enjoyed playing through this, a lot shorter than your past two city maps. (But a lot more navigatable, too, which is a good thing) I enjoyed the jumping part to get to the plasma secret, though it was a bit difficult getting over the wall on the path to the ending. (The part before the room before the Cyberdemon battle) The invisible wall at the beginning of the map could have some more debris littered around, as it looked like that was the path I was supposed to go. Some of the brick walls down alleyways could use some texture alignment. Also, I found it a bit silly I could stand on fire without getting hurt, but I suppose if it did hurt you while running around frantically fighting enemies that wouldn't be much better. Most importantly:
Spoiler:
I managed to get myself stuck behind this invisible wall which led to my death because part of the sidewalk isn't labelled as impassible. Otherwise was great.

With this kind of talent, you could create a whole megawad with maps like this if you wanted.

Enjoyed it thoroughly, will definitely play again. Many times.

It's easy to get here:

using an easy jump from a nearby wall. As far as I can tell, you aren't supposed to go here and I think you get stuck if you do get in.

Thanks for the feedback. The map is updated. I also included a new secret area.
