This isn't the first announcement of this project. I recently announced it back on the Skulltag forums back in the beginning of August 2008.
I have decided to make this mod both a Skulltag and a GZDoom project
The mod is still in Alpha stages
As the project has only started I do not have many screenshots to reveal. Total Chaos was originally created to be a Doom Legacy project 3 years ago, however the engine didn't pull off the result I was looking for. The storyline remains similar. A town was evacuated a decade ago after a large explosion killed thousonds. Even though the zone is safe for entry, search teams have never returned from the town. You play the role of a film student who decides to document the abandoned town for a school project. Shortly after arriving, your friends suddenly disappear. You wake up after blacking out, alone, with no memory of previous events. All you have is a video camera with an hours worth of tape remaining. It is soon clear that you have exactly an hour to collect evidience of what is going down in this town. The mod is a horror/puzzle so there isn't much shooting involved. Your courage is your weapon.
Total Chaos uses the OpenGL engine to pull off many of its detail and lighting effects.
Heres a list of some of the features in Total Chaos:
- Support for giant landscapes and forests (including a vegitation system)
- Advanced particle systems including cloud and atmosphere effects
- Mimiced HDR and Lightbeam effects which include animation and direction shifting acording to the source
- Large libraries of 3D models and hi-resolution textures provided by CGTextures.com
