Kaiser's Doom64 EX 1.1 (Feedback Build)

Post by esselfortium »

Kaiser wrote: Doom64 EX is a free clone of the Nintendo64 game, Doom64 (developed by Midway).

The goal is to perfectly re-create Doom64 in every way possible and to support Win32 and *Unix platforms.
The Doom64 EX engine is based on the Doom3D source port.

I am quite happy to announce the first public release of Doom64 EX. I wanted to make sure everything is in a stable state before I make a public release, however this release is not official.

I am seeking feedback for what everyone likes, what they don't like, and what they like to see improved or enhanced. Though do not expect massive/overhaul changes or updates. Keep the feature suggestions realistic. I am also seeking those to point out any serious bugs as well.

Please take the time to review the readme on how to setup D64Ex and for its known issues.

Whoo!

Yup, it's a pity he screwed up and got himself banned. Fine work.

Your sarcastic remarks didn't help much since I did actually read the readme but only left me confused (how the hell do I supposed to get the Doom64 IWAD and Doom 64 Rom from the wad generator which should have been included to make things a whole lot easier? Do I have to get the actual game cartridge and somehow loaded it up to my computer? If so I'm fuck because I don't have the hardware to do so unless plugging the N64 into the computer is somehow possible.)

You need the Doom64 ROM file. You can either acquire it legally or not post on this forum about how you got it. :|

I've read the readme and I get this error: ERROR: Rom_GetIwad: IWAD header not found..

EDIT: Problem solved. The correct ROM size should be 16MB (16,777,216 bytes).

So if you need the rom to play it, why not just use a emulator?

I finally got the game working but I can this notice that this game a bit lagging and also buggy (not to mention if you go to the last level Absolution where you notice that some of the wall textures from the distance at the boss arena disappears but reappears when you go near it but disappears when you go further away from the textures.)

I have to say that actually this is pretty funny: Kaiser has been really good in making this, and it's a shame it got banned...
And i can't see any bug or lag as ND said...

About this ZDoom thing... If you need the iwad to play it, why not just use Doom.exe? :P

I suppose people could start a FreeDoom64 project, but given how well FreeHeretic and FreeHexen faired, I doubt it.

Mouselook, multiplayer, custom levels.

I like Kaiser's stuff for the most part (I wasn't big on CIF3), it's just a damn shame he doesn't like us back :(
