Re: ÆoD (patch 6.02 (01-22-12))
But why when I play the classic AEoD, some weapons don't appear ever? Like Quake 4' shotgun.
Re: ÆoD (patch 6.02 (01-22-12))
I'll make a mirror on mediafire today for all versions I have.
version 5, 6 were unzipped and repacked without compression - only for better playability. nothing was added or removed. i think it's ok?
and I have TWO third versions of AEoD:
http://www.mediafire.com/?x8595b5v3r6x3h5 this is aeod 3.01 wad that i've seen much later than another one. there are many usable items like chaos device runes etc... set of monsters is like in 4,5,6, aeods.
http://www.mediafire.com/?e2qra8ik10k6ej5 - that is aeod 3.? . seven wads, that i've downloaded in 2006 from idunnowhere. set of monsters and their parameters is different , and there is very badass Cyber-class monster FDBThanatos
that could kicks everyones ass. also, there 2 excel files "AEoD lists" - i put them in. and there was a readme, but i missed it.
as for me 3.? version is more interesting , but there is FDBThanatos and no items except stimpack.

Re: ÆoD (patch 6.02 (01-22-12))
so, here we are
AEoD v5 zero repacked + effect chocker v5
http://www.mediafire.com/?n8a7ll44bv4v3g4 aeod5e.7z 182 Mb
what was done:
unpack aeod5.pk3 > zip(0) to aeod5.wad ----->
unpack aeod5dat.pk3 > zip(0) to aeod5dat.wad > ----> aeod5e.pk0 (365 Mb) > aeod5e.7z
AEoD5EF.wad ----------------->
what for is this shit?
for some strange persons who have kainozoic computers
latest version of aeod v5 was uncompressed and packed with zero compression level, renamed to *.wad and packed (also 0 lvl) to one file. gzdoom could read this one pak file and chain files in it in right sequence.
also theres effect choker for 5th version.
nothing was changed or added to original files.

Re: ÆoD (patch 6.02 (01-22-12))
AEoD v 6.02 zero repacked + effect chocker v6
ZIP archive in two parts (because of 200 Mb filesize upload limit on mediafire)
http://www.mediafire.com/?a1wr3kp89av3wzf 139 Mb PART 1 (one)
http://www.mediafire.com/?zm5oj99mqxermk3 140 Mb PART 2 (two) ALSO must be downloaded
UPD NOW ALL LINKs ARE CORRECT
what was done:
unpack aeod6.pk3 > zip(0) to aeod6.wad ----->
unpack aeod6dat.pk3 > zip(0) to aeod6dat.wad > ----> aeod6e.pk0 (342 Mb) ---> aeod6e.zip+aeod6e.z01 ~(278 Mb)
AEoD6EF.wad ----------------->
on my Celeron 2.4 ATI 9600 repacked version loads and works faster.
I thought Major would make a new mod that removes those pesky effects - blood splashes.
but this did not happen. unfortunately.
so this all what we (who have old comps) could do to increase speed of game.
nothing was changed or added to original files

Re: ÆoD (patch 6.02 (01-22-12))
Just a small heads up...
I don't know is it just feature or what, but Life Leech from Blood doesn't give any bit of health.
Or is it just overpowered, because of the ability?
And any way to make weapons more "customized" for Nightmare! difficulty? I know that some weapons becomes obsolete at some point, or depending player's style. But some good weapons in normal play are rendered to useless in Nightmare. And as for dumb for codes'n'stuff, is it hard to implement?
example:
The Meteor Rod, which was pretty awesome after all, is rendered next to useless (meaning secondary), in Nightmare! difficulty.
The flamethrower attack has increased chance to inflict pain.

Honestly, is not worth the time. As is, AEoD is in a rather static phase, where the only change it'll see soon is a patch to fix issues. No new features nor anything else.
And about the life leech: it was never supossed to give health. Instead, it takes health to shoot if the user depleted it's original ammunition.

Re: ÆoD (patch 6.02 (01-22-12))
i liked the left 4 doom, it´s a different kind of monster fight that i saw in doom

Oh well.DBThanatos wrote:Honestly, is not worth the time. As is, AEoD is in a rather static phase, where the only change it'll see soon is a patch to fix issues. No new features nor anything else.
Maybe someone (or me, if I just would have the skills) can do unofficial patch...
If that's okay for you, devs.
In Blood or in AEoD? =PDBThanatos wrote:And about the life leech: it was never supossed to give health. Instead, it takes health to shoot if the user depleted it's original ammunition.
If in AEoD, then it's settled, and I am not going to debate further.
It's just when you're attuned to guns from other games.
And yes, it's stupid when it comes for AEoD, I know...
Re: ÆoD (patch 6.02 (01-22-12))
i have a strange question:
we could see a table in FAQ to ver 5

how we should know what kind of weapons and what kind of monsters are in ver 5 or ver 6?
empirical way only?

Dronord: Excuse me? Those "pesky" new blood effects, as in when being shot? If so:
I will NEVER remove those! I love those to death and back, and so does DBThanatos. I'm not adding that to the effect choker ever.
And if you're doing what I think you're doing, making a bunch of WAD files, you better read up on this first.

Re: ÆoD (patch 6.02 (01-22-12))
How did you make em? I actualy like those blood effects
Re: ÆoD (patch 6.02 (01-22-12))
Major Cooke, I can explain
I can understand when you say we won't remove some effects because we like them when you say it as a creator of the AEoD. many effects in AEoD are nice and ppl play AEoD because they enjoy them.
but if you are making a release of smth it is not correct. because many ppl said that they experienced lags with such effects, and blood splaches were said about too. i know that the best advice to that ppl is to buy a new comp, but if you're doing an effect choker to help them why not to do it a bit better? i think that is correct.
i'll read about "zip and wads". everething seems OK when I play them.
I just like to do releases with doom mods where all is set up and works. it is for lazy ppl whop dont know about DOOM mods. it's a hobby. so i'll test that archives again and try to find what's wrong with them. or u can say it at once.

Re: ÆoD (patch 6.02 (01-22-12))
Dronord, the thing that's wrong with WAD files inside zips is the fact that it consumes more memory and allocates to the memory very poorly. This was an issue resolved in v5 by introducing the .ZIP structure.
If you really want to compress it, simply convert AEoD.pk3 into AEoD.7z. That should do it for you instead of folders inside wads inside a zip.
And for the effect choker, the primary ability about the effect choker is to indeed reduce the amount of particles the game has, but most importantly, to not spawn effects where the player cannot see them. Yes, I need to update it a bit more in order for it to be more effective now that I've discovered a vast amount of things not yet covered, but rest assured, the blood causes me no lag whatsoever.

Re: ÆoD (patch 6.02 (01-22-12))
Okay! Good news for those of you seeking further compression and faster game speeds, I just tested the difference between .pk3 and .7z
The difference is noticeably HUGE.
The only thing this will impact is loading, but that's it. It only adds on about 20-40 seconds on my laptop. But, it brings the file size down from 321 megabytes to a 263! So there you go, trimmed the size by another 60 megabytes for you.
I am currently uploading this. I even went to test it standalone without the effect choker, it's laughably a huge performance boost.
Also tested game save compatibility, it doesn't break it whatsoever so long as you keep the same load order. All you'll need to do is modify your loaders/launchers so it loads the .7z version instead.
---SNIPPED--- Reason: Forgot a key file that the main resource package needed. See next page for details.

Some people go for a .pk7 extension. Might reduce confusion.
