Nice theorizing but its only theories. First off it has bugs because its... a test version... Suprise! Demonsteele had many glitches (and balance issues, half implemented stuff ect) when i was testing it. This doesn't make TerminusEst13 (or sergeantmark4)a bad programmer simply because of this, it should be expected between full releases. As for bdj being "better", thats opinion. Sure its a well done mod, Johnny knows what hes doing, but i personally preferred sperglord edition. Besides its mainly more popular because no other bd submod has come out/been updated recently iirc(besides mlg mod but thats a joke wad). And brutal doom is around a year or more without an update? All alternatives are slightly stagnant (though im not saying bdj is bad, just not my thing, nor some others) . Even if both theories were valid, this doesn't invalidate the request, i know sergeant mark 4 is banned, and kind of not talked about, but i would hope that simple request could be honored until April. After all respecting these things seems to be valued as important in zdoom forum's community, and i would hope this respect isn't limited to those in zdoom forums. Only reason i brought it up was since the link was provided WITHOUT this context, johnny would not of known(and may of used it in bdj unknowing of this context ) . I just wanted to make johnny aware, whether or not he respects this (or if mods will acknowledge it if he doesn't) remains to be seen, but at least i said my piece, and people are now aware.

I'm assuming this was partially directed at me with the theories bit, which you are entirely correct. Theories abound, I could be way off the mark (puns), or I could be fairly accurate. Let's just make an "ass" of "u" and "me" and say I'm off the mark, yeah?

faslrn wrote:Thanks for all the hard work Johnny. I personally use the SmoothDoom variation because I was looking for something to just add some little things to the core DOOM gameplay and it fit the bill. I also added a few things to make it feel like a more modern but vanilla-y DOOM:
  • Changed drop rates of grenades to 2% chance on Zombies, only 3 gained from backpacks, and you start with 0.
  • Integrated Ultimate DoomVisor HUD with all features working (this was before the post with the new HUD package )
  • Changed all the monster and item sounds to their PSX versions and ported over and modified the brutal sounds for the weapons
  • Added selfie mod because why not

I can't stop playing now. Bless you ():)
Could you please share this version of BDJ?

Code: Select all

http://www.mediafire.com/download/mbxyiam79x6fpds/faslrn-SmoothDoomJ.zip
Here is the link. I removed the selfie stuff because while playing on some maps yesterday, I ran into some issues. Everything else is in there though. For the load order, you want to use this:

Code: Select all

gzdoom.exe -file WADs\SmoothDoom.pk3 WADs\SmoothDoomJ.pk3 WADs\psxsound-mod.zip WADs\BASE_UDV_v1.43a_BD_v19_GZDoom.pk3 WADs\UDV_LowRes_add_in.pk3 WADs\UDV_Vanilla_add_in.pk3
I also use the 655 version of GZDoom because I was finding that some of the shaking (either from explosions or kicking) was making the player model suddenly jump to the skybox. Using 655 seemed to resolve that issue but I haven't tried the latest versions.

The only issue with the mods I have ran into right now is with the kicking where if you do it twice fast, it will kick combo properly but then it will send a third kick out for some reason. Still looking into that.

There wasn't a pickup sprite for the chainsaw, I made this using the Chaingun and Chainsaw from DooM 64, if you're interested I'm also posting the sprite.

I was playing this mod on the original DooM 2 levels, and two bugs occurred, 1: Mancubi cannot harm you, making Dead Simple, well, Dead Simple, and 2: in tricks and traps the pinky room with the rocket launcher got bugged somehow, the floor is supposed to rise in a certain sector and instead only some rise, breaking the level.

Yep I picked up the Mancubus issue as well but even your own flame cannon can not harm you seems too be the player is immune too the flame. Is there a possible Fix or a guide too find where in the file you can fix this yourself its pretty annoying.

Just a quick post before making a real effort post sometime tomorrow. Sorry for slackin boys, but I just started my first real adult job and this whole 40 hour work week thing fucking sucks dicks. My sleep schedule is still firmly in stay up til 4am sleep til 2pm college mode so my mind's been driving around on E since about noon Monday. The manc fire thing... just go in player.dec and comment out (//) or delete or whatever you wanna do the line where it says damagefactor "fire", 0.0. It shouldn't even be there to begin with.

ALSO, AND THIS IS BIG--------------
The gibs blocking lifts and the player not activating lift lines or whatever they're called bugs were actually a super simple fix this whole damn time. Go to demons.dec, find +ACTSLIKEBRIDGE, delete it. Done. THAT'S LITERALLY IT. And to think I spent three whole days trying to figure that shit out.

I know this feel all too well. I work 10 hours a day usually. Saps a lot out of me.

Thanks for the help Johnny btw I do some sound development and have been working with your version too update sounds and such. Not weapons as much but other things like some missing HD sounds for monsters , pick up items , jumping , gore , Ricochet sounds and more if you want I can put a demo vid of the new sounds and see what you think.
