Ral Weapons Bob Test v.2 [Released]

Post by Ral22 »

Version 2, with the new weapon bob system, released.

Version 2 Download:

Well, I had an Idea a while back, so I started working on it recently.

The Idea? What if weapons bobbed differently when you ran. Well, after some work on the pistol, proving the concept, I decided to redo all of the weapons in Doom. For example, you will lower your pistol and run with your fist going in and out, instead of that bland U-shaped bob. Plus, I got to test some other things with the enemies that I think are interesting too.

I can't agree that it will be loved by everyone, but I think it will be something new and interesting.

Well, they seem worthless in screenshot form, but here are some.

Ahem.
Forum rules
Got a cool project idea but nothing else? This forum is NOT for you! Put it in this thread instead!
Please read the full rules for more details.
It's better to actually have something to show before you post here, so people can see what you've done and not overreact about the rules.

The idea seems interesting though.

I do have something to show, but it's redundent as it just looks like Doom. All I have left to do though is the Plasma Rifle and BFG9000. I apologize greatly for not showing anything, but I can put up screenshot if I really need to.

Shoulda posted when you were done with the thing, or at the very least a demo of sorts if you were gonna post about it this early. Shame. :nope:

Meh, he's got an idea that can't really be screenshotted (although a video would work). He has made some progress and wants to share what he has achieved and wants to test the water to see what peoples' attitudes to the project are. However, so far he has mainly got comments about the appropriateness of the thread.

The concept sounds interesting. My initial impression from the description was that it wasn't going to be possible to fire when running (ie the fist out). However, that seems not to be the case. I assume that accuracy varies in some way? Given that Doom only really has 3 modes of movement (run, walk, stand still) perhaps 3 forms of accuracy could be incorporated there? Perhaps crouching could play a part too? Or maybe accuracy is not part of the scope of this projects and perhaps it is just a cosmetic change to the bob style?

Hey, this looks interesting enough to possibly implement into a little project I'm working on to add some form of hollywood (fake) realism...

Think you can make a video?

Well, I don't have a video recorder, so that a big "I'm sorry" there.

I didn't think about that to tell the truth. But it could be easily implemented if someone wants to use the idea in a WAD. For my release though, accuracy won't come into play.

I'll break this out as quick as I can, so stay tuned. Thanks again, everybody. :)

Concievably, you'd stop pumping your arms (Which is a balance thing, right?) and try to aim straight. Granted, there'd still be some loss to accuracy - Find a wide open area, point at something in the distance and start running, you'll see what I mean. ;)

Hey, everyone! I just finished the WAD, but there's just one problem... I don't know how to upload it. I'm guessing idgames is the best place, but could someone give me a walkthrough?

Sorry, it's just that I'm new to all of this.

This is pretty cool. After you get used to it, running actually feels satisfying seeing the movement of your arms. The firing animations are smoothed well, and the chaingun actually feels like it's being fired from the hip, though if someone could make some angled chaingun sprites, it would look a bit more correct.

I was a bit annoyed when I didn't get guns from zombies. And while moving a short distance, just taking a couple steps, the bobbing animations were almost too much.

Hey, thanks.
And about the zombie thing. sorry, just messin' with Enemy Decorate.

As for the couple of steps thing, I think I figured it out, but I won't update it, since this is just a test.

Location of 2H carrying sprites could be improved so they're not blocking as much view when held. But they're good choices otherwise.
