BMF Bitmap font support

Post by Big-Boss »

I am sure one or two people might be aware of this site: http://bmf.wz.cz/

It includes the technical stuff related to the BMF font and is an excellent bitmap font resource. All fonts have have a .bmf font download. It would be pretty cool to see ZDooM use something beyond the standard DooM font.

I would love this as a feature. Though I don't know if it would be easy/possible to implement.

It looks simple enough to do, but not until after the next release.

Best suggestion since ages, the resource rocks :)

Yeah, I figured it might be worth suggesting considering the sheer number of font's available (approx. 794). It would take away the countless hours required to create a new font char by char in the graphics programme de choix and implementing it into FONTDEFS.

This sounds like an awesome idea. I'm sure tons of mods are going to (ab)use this.

True, but after almost 17 years of staring at the DooM font, it'd be nice to see something else lol

Indeed it would but. My (ab)use comment was mainly a joke. I can tell we're gonna get new fonts popping up in nearly every ZDoom WAD from now on, not that it's a bad thing.

They look very DOS. I kind of like that.

You can tell me that that with some 16bit color mountains and a castle wouldn't pass for a title screen in 1993.

Ja I think most are from DOS and pre-1999 console games, which is epic.

Oof, three-hit nostalgia combo.

Be right back, reminiscing.

It won't: Most games in 1993 didn't have 16-bit colour since the then standard VGA frame buffers only had 640k memory, hence why Doom was originally in 320x200x8.
