Healrange property

Post by Ghastly »

I was playing Quake 2, and saw a medic revive a monster from quite a ways away (about 256 units) and wondered if it'd be possible to make a healrange property.

Though I don't think for a second that it'd be very popular, it would probably be as easy as meleerange to implement.

Sorry for double-posting, but I had another thought. A MinHealChance property would balance HealRange out nicely, and would probably be as easy as MinMissileChance to implement, though I have no idea, in truth, how hard it would actually be since I don't know programming.

This would be a bad ass feature. Would quite help making medics. So, count me in as "seconded" ;)

There's already something like that in Hexen called the Mystic Ambit Incant (an artifact used mainly in multiplayer). I'm sure this won't be hard at all to add, if it isn't in already.

Mystic Ambit Incant? Why does that sound oddly Harry Potterish..?

Anywho, I don't think I've EVER heard of SEEN that in Hexen. :?

It's an artifact (a whitish scroll with a blue symbol on it) seen only in multiplayer, so it's likely that you've never seen it unless you played multiplayer or played a wadfile that included them in single player. If someone uses one, the user and any other player in the area would be affected, but the effects are different according to class. Fighters would gain a point of armor, clerics would gain a bit of health, and mages would get some blue mana, or green if the blue is already filled up. The affected radius is 255 units.

I always wondered what that scroll was for. That explains the Player.HealRadiusType in the player definitions for Hexen. Now if only I could figure out what that golden egg does...

I thought that golden egg was another Morph artifact. Isn't it the Morph Ovum from Heritec?

The morph ovum isn't gold, it's white. The golden one probably does something different o.O

It's just development garbage which in Hexen itself didn't do anything. But since it uses the same sprite name as the one in Heretic ZDoom uses it as such - even though the projectile and the chicken don't have any sprites defined.

Yeah, that gold egg is unused. My guess is they were going to bring the Morph Ovum over to Hexen, but decided to try something different, and didn't get around to removing the old sprites.

Can we get back to the original topic? I don't think it would be that abusable, since people can also make a 999 damage rapid-fire hitscan attack :p.

Also, I'm not sure this would be subject to Quake 2s bug where a medic would unsuccessfully continually try to heal something behind a wall, because monster don't try to attack a player from behind a wall.

It tried to revive monsters from behind walls? So that's why it became psychotic and kept on going through the revive motions and failing rather than attacking me. I agree that it would be useful to do a healrange ability. But doing something to make it avoid healing monsters behind walls is a definite must.

I don't think that bug would happen in Doom due to the different methods the two games use. If there was a similar bug, though, the Doom monster would revive the monster from behind the wall successfully.

Yeah i think there should be a action function you can use for monsters, and then it should also be friendly or non-friendly parameter too. So technically the medic should be able to heal you or any monsters that were on your side. Or it will resurrect any monster and make it friendly either way works.

I rather have it resurrect specific CLasses.
