"Add IWAD" feature

Postby Nash » Sun Sep 06, 2009 10:38 pm

Well I was reading the Mac thread and found this post from Graf Zahl which I think is a really good idea and deserves its own thread so it doesn't get buried and forgotten...

Graf Zahl wrote:(Here's an idea for ZDoom: Have the IWAD selection box contain an 'add IWAD' button! That would finally solve the problem of many people wishing to add custom IWADs to that list!)

Meh, personally, I'm of the opinion that Zdoom is the game, not a launcher. ZDL can already add IWADs.

A launcher is for selecting pwads. I don't use one, instead I use "send to" or "open with".

Or IWADs. I know that coz I do it. ;)

Most ports don't have an IWAD selection dialogue.

I, on the other hand, hold that ZDoom is a game engine, one that will run Doom, Heretic, Strife, Marine Assault, etc.

But ZDoom does. (Eternity does as well if you configure it. It's fancier but I prefer ZDoom's, which is straight-and-to-the-point and remembers the last choice.)

Many ports provide their own launchers as well (e.g., Doomsday).

I'm not really bothered either way to be honest. I never see the Zdoom IWAD dialogue anyway because ZDL adds the -iwad argument to the command line.
