good thing i'm safe over here in this country, then... right?

anyway, my eyes have been red and runny the past few days. i think i finally know what it is now: my eye sight's getting worse, as i've noticed now, even as i am typing with sunglasses on to protect my eyes, that i am straining them in order to see the text i am typing correctly. i think i need to get them checked up again.

i wouldn't think so, otherwise my family would have complained about that they have runny eyes, as well.

Finished Singularity. It's a pretty linear (which doesn't work well with the story mechanic of the messages on the walls), the controls are pretty consolized (Press T to reload, press T to manipulate the environment, hold T to switch this weapon with this one, etc.), not a lot of graphics options (for support for many resolutions, you have to edit a pair of registry entries), and there wasn't a final boss (or boss-ish encounter).

That said, I LOVE THIS GAME. The story is great, the bosses that exist are pretty decent, I like the guns and mechanics, the upgrade mechanic was great (like in Red Faction: Armageddon), AND DID I MENTION THE STORY IS GREAT!? People say this game was a Bioshock clone (which I really don't get), but if you enjoyed Bioshock then what's the problem? I'd say it borrows more from Half-Life 2, but that's still not a bad thing.

Finished Duke Nukem Forever for the 3rd time, probably. I forgot how many times I played it. People can say what they want about it: it is old, it's conceptually outdated, but playing as Duke again is plain out awesome.

Some people say it's boring: I didn't notice any boredom degree: I literally hooked myself to the game and finished it in relatively short amount of time.
Nevertheless, the game isn't perfect: some animations are choppy, and some textures are still a bit lo-res. But you can't pretend much from a game that changed 4 times its main engine and finally settling on a modified Unreal Engine 2.

All in all, it deserves a better rating than the current one.

This trailer does look good visually, hopefully it won't be boring/messed up (in a bad way) like the first Silent Hill movie.

Tried out Day Z for ArmA II these past couple days, and I am absolutely loving it. This is way more hardcore survival than Minecraft could ever hope to be.

The interesting thing about this mod is the most dangerous creatures are not the zombies; they're other players. There's an unspoken "shoot first, ask questions later" policy among the players of this mod, which means that you might be unlucky enough to be darting through a forest on your way to the next village only to be mown down by a burst of automatic fire from a nearby hill. And major coastal cities are pretty much a death sentence -- places like those are a haven for predatory bandits.

Still, having loads of fun playing with Hellser and a few more of my friends.

Got a hard day behind myself.
My brother-in-law's father had suddenly passed away recently, his funeral was held today. During the ceremony in the great heat I found myself touched even though the only memory I have of the said person was him dancing with my great aunt during my sister's engagement party which wasn't even two weeks ago.. I guess it's a reasonably shocking experience.

It was also my first time to hear a mother mourn, as the man who died aged 55, and her mother is still among us.

I haven't been to many funerals in my life, but it came as new that the mourning family had invited some of the others (including us) to dine with them.. during which, I may have accepted the offer of a beer one too many times for my stomach's comfort ('twas just a bit painful, not tangible by any means..) but it does kind of put a little unease on my heart, even though it's one way to help ourselves through this time.

Yeah I've seen plenty of videos of this game on Youtube, of douchebags intentionally being douchebags to other players and enjoying it.

I'll pass.

Just had my first (and last) run-in with a hacker on Day Z. It was right after me and Hellser got comfortable with the stuff we'd accumulated -- hunting knife and matchbox for more reliable food acquisition, canteens for more reliable water acquisition, a decent loadout of weapons and carrying equipment.... and a hacker logs onto the server and teleports every player online to one spot 1,000 feet in the air so they fall to their deaths.

I'm done. Until Day Z fixes that kind of hacking, it can rot in a hole.

Finished Rage. Not a bad game at all. As shooters go, it was quite long, and had a hell of a lot of variety! The gun-play as well was really satisfying, even if there were a few ammo types I didn't really use often. :D

So why do I keep hearing people to steer clear of this game? I nearly picked it up in a Steam Sale, but had to resist in fear of overspending.

Many of those complaints stem from it having some RPG elements and being compared to Borderlands and Fallout 3. Those do wasteland exploration and questing a lot better but if you take Rage as strictly a FPS, then it's a lot better. One other complaint is that the ending was anticlimactic, but it's an obvious set-up for an already-confirmed sequel (hilariously, I didn't hear those complaints for Crysis 2, which was very similar in that regard).

Edit: This article has what Carmack said about the negative response to Rage (and he repeated the criticisms pretty accurately): http://www.tomshardware.com/news/John-C ... 16610.html
