Finally got time to play some newest Serious Sam and...

Damn, it was some time since I had such fun. The beginning is boring, but later is like old, true Sam - chaos, mess, massacre and again - chaos. If somebody wants to have a go with me on it sometime, I'm all ears. :P

Since my artist left the team for my zombie project, I am now back to being in charge of all the graphics. He did a damn good job (worth my money), and left me with a lot of assets that should be more than enough to get me going... it's just that I've left 3ds Max for a few months, and it takes a little getting used to, going back into the thing... and this is how I feel:

3ds Max is like a super hot girl which you don't really have feelings for but if you just force yourself into it and try your best, the relationship might just work.

What did I just do? I tried walking up the stairs, while pretending to be Doomguy and doing the Fists hand bobbing motion thing as I walk up the stairs. The catch? Do it inverse/alpha bobbing style. It's very disorienting, made me feel like I was going to fall off the stairs. Try it. XD

I upgraded the database software on this site from PostgreSQL 8.4 to 9.1. I don't know if it's just a fluke, but jumping to random pages in this thread seems to be much faster than before (less than a second now compared to several seconds before).

InsanityBringer wrote:Ok, random question, but does anyone know of any terrain generators and editors that are geared up at creating heightmaps for games? I kind of want to add nice features to terra like automatic texturing from the heightmap file, because manually doing the texturing in DB2 or whatever can get a little annoying. The only one I know of offhand is Nemesis' tool for HL2, which works decently, but I'm not sure if there's others out there.

I've used a program called Terragen Classic (commercial app): http://www.planetside.co.uk/index.php?o ... Itemid=152 and a free one called Terrain Generator: http://nemesis.thewavelength.net/index.php?p=8

These are the only 2 I've ever messed around with...

Hey IB I found another one, looks pretty cool...

Hmm, I'll have to check these all out. I'm currently leaning at using Nem's tool because it's pretty simple, but Terragen Classic and the tool you just linked seem pretty cool.

From the looks of things, the way texturing is done in Nem's tool seems the most useful, but I'll see what I can do with the others.

My laptop's battery keeps dying at around 90% when unplugged. Not a good sign. D:

Last night I went to a gathering of friends and family for my late Nan, to commemorate her first "missed" birthday. The stories and memories that a range of people gave actually were quite enlightening, as it revealed to me how little I really knew the woman (in fact, the sheer number of completely new people [to me] there hinted at that). After all of the planned speeches were done, I got up and said a few impromptu words myself to that effect - trying to convey how I feel I should have perhaps known her better and was glad to see how she is truly remembered amongst those she spent her time with.

Quite a positive experience, in all.
