WAIT A SECOND

I think I just realised why I've been getting this weird issue with almost ALL popular videos.
I actually tried to get help on the matter but I couldn't find any reasonable tech support (Well there was a forum i recall but no replies ever)

My issue is that most of the more popular vids just refuse to load. No matter how many times I refresh, and none of the buttons of the player UI are pressable. (except for fullscreen, duh)
I was very annoyed until I found out I can get these vids to load if I embed them somewhere. So basically I've been embedding a lot of youtube vids in forum post previews, heh. :P

Youtube may be detecting if you have their ads blocked and will therefore refuse to stream the video for you.
That might mean that there are no ads for anyone when embedded? Can anyone confirm this?

EDIT: I just disabled my firewall's ad blocking stuff. Nope, didn't fix it. Damn :P I was beginning to feel like sherlock too

Back in Romania, every video not expressly tagged as "we're sorry, but this video is disabled in your country" (which would never be a search result) would work. I heard report from a buddy of mine that, however, instead of getting the ads, the videos in question were muted, but I wasn't noticing anything of the sort, unless either the ad system was added after 1st April (day I left), or something's odd here. And I visit lots of targettable youtube videos, to listen to music without downloading it on my permanent storage. It is common for videos to get replaced by public domain/freely licensed elevator music, but this sounds like something else. Probably they're preparing for the day when ACTA or some other anti-piracy international treaty gets promulgated.

Thing is, you'll have to accept ads, they're an inevitable part of life, needed to keep services free. We're already used with mainstream TV having them everywhere, I don't see how YouTube is to be any different. Still, aren't Internet advertising programmers attempting to circumvent ad blocking programs? I find a universe without any ad banners kinda dull.

The only ads that suck are those which show or suggest skin diseases, when they're from legitimate (and trusted) medical centers (and not from trolls). They're so distasteful because of that.

I stopped watching TV a while ago, one of the reasons being I was sick of the ads. I watch TV shows on my computer now instead.

I find that more and more people watch stuff on their PC rather than on TV.
It's not only the ads for me, I really hate to adjust my free time to a channel's schedule, I wouldn't want to miss a single minute of shows I like. Plus, in my country, all the shows are behind a season or two, sometimes i even encounter poor translation, and it's always nicer to practice my english skills.

Well, for now I'm mighty happy that I don't get to encounter any ads on Youtube. I'm wasting enough time on there as it is :P

You GOTTA LOVE java!
I mean, where else would you get delicious lagspikes from unexpected garbage collection, where else would your game think a frame took negative time on a multi-core CPU, where else would even the simplest of GUI elements have an overly complex system behind them?

Heh, I still don't hate it for some reason.

And yet it's such a popular language for new game programmers... we have Minecraft to thank for that...

You gotta think about the fact that minecraft runs really poorly graphically.. Especially considering it's SO COMPLEX.

it's this video card being used

it could technically handle minecraft, if minetest is any indication..... the so-called tile rendering really benefits in this case.

Heh, you and everyone else have them dubbed :P

I'm in a dorm now and I feel far better without the TV. I wish I could get rid of my TV sets at home, maybe that way life will become much sweeter without that toxic distraction. Too bad my parents want TV to watch stupid loud news programmes.

:woh:

15 minutes ago I heard something moving in the kitchen downstairs. Sounded like something falling in the dish washer or the kitchen drawer opening. That was 12.30 midnight by the way. Eek! Checked the house for intruders, but nothing. Yeah, I'm not going to be able to sleep now, so paranoid. :x

I just downloaded and tried Minetest. It's obviously in a relatively early state but it seems really quite nice and more solid that the flakey Java-based Minecraft. I hope that work continues with it. It really has potential.

Does anyone know if the worlds are infinitely deep/tall? I dug down in creative mode and got to something like 750 blocks deep before getting bored and stopping.

What, nine thousand???
Minecraft has just been extended to like... 256 blocks max? Or was it 512... Still. I guess if notch really tried he could have made it "infinite" but it's not much use considering there's nothing more precious to find than diamonds.

By the way, I've got a broken CPU fan so I made a kludge by putting an old fan i found on the other side of the aluminum thingy, and it's been working like a charm for months. It tends to get really loud sometimes, and I'm sort of scared now cuz according to this tool I use it goes with 5273 RPM :O (I think its overestimated, but still...)

It doesn't even connect to the CPU fan socket on the motherboard so I have it as a system fan, therefore it doesn't really take note wether the CPU needs more cooling or not. What makes it go this crazy fast sometimes is a mystery to me, though.
On chilly days my CPU could be down to like 5 celsius

Oh man is this the year of American elections already? So soon? Where are the candidates? Or are people so sure Obama will get reelected?
