Man, that sucks. I'd be pretty screwed if my PC died on me too. Sorry to hear that man.

I REALLY need to get around to preparing my eldest laptop for sale... someone on these forums such as MagSigmaX could use it.

Man, this processor actually can hit 4 Ghz.. At 1.325v core voltage.

And this is a E8600, which as far as I've read hit 4 Ghz around 1.23v. (Huge difference)

Prolonged 100% makes it go 74+ degrees though. :p
Can't imagine that's way too stressy though, since I doubt it'd go above 79 or something. And we have a computer that runs at around 85/105 (holy schnikes) degrees CPU/GPU at a decent load over at our school.
..And it's been going on like that for years now.

I'm getting a GTS 250 (512 MB) to replace my 9400 GT. Hoping to see a huge difference. I'm getting a RAM replacement later. My card was dying on me, now my RAM decides to give me frequent BSODs. I hope to have all of this fixed soon though. :)

I'm sure this isn't nearly as interesting as I'm making it out to be, but I got a real kick out of this fun engine oddity:

<Xaser> bahahahaha!
<Xaser> EPIC MEGAHACK
<Xaser> okay
<Xaser> notice anything odd about this line? :
<Xaser> "switch strife BRNSCN01 quest on sound switches/sizzle pic BRNSCN05 tics 0"
[Ed. The previous line is from zdoom.pk3's ANIMDEFS.txt, in the Strife section]
<Kate> Xaser, yeah
<Xaser> ...that "quest" keyword signals a chain of events that leads to giving the player a stamina+accuracy boost and their very own, hardcoded copy of QuestItem29
<Kate> heh
<Xaser> like, this traces all the way back to P_ChangeSwitchTexture and beyond.
<Xaser> So every time you flip a switch in ZDoom, there's a little check somewhere that's saying "Hmm, should I give the player a QuestItem and a stat boost?"
<Xaser> (in a roundabout way)
<Xaser> but yeah, a ridiculously-specific Strife feature exposed as a top-level ANIMDEFS flag. o_O
<Xaser> ZDoom is king P:
<Kate> heh
<Xaser> On an unfortunate note, that more or less means that I can't do a thing to change it to make it work "properly" in co-op. Meaning that just one player is going to get that stat boost.
<Xaser> I think the only purpose of that quest item is to change the Drones' dialogue lines to "We're Free!," since it's an optional quest and all. No big loss. :P
<Xaser> Just found it highly amusing how that's implemented in the engine.

'Course, the more I think about this, the more I realize that this was probably the only way to correctly emulate how vanilla Strife implements the feature. Rogue's fault. :P

Nice find Xaser. Just one of the many, MANY invisible crude hacks that are buried deep within the very foundation of the game engine...

ANOTHER SET OF STEAM RANTS!

1) Downloads appear to restart at 0% when you launch a game.

It does this all the time. I used to panic and go on a nerd rage, but terranova taught me that when this bullshit happens, all I have to do is restart Steam. Very inconvenient, and some other users might not have the luxury of knowing this, therefore they might just accept this shitty fact and blindly let the download restart, wasting their download bandwidth quota (if they had any).

2) Performing first time setup... FOR THE 100th FUCKING TIME

Seriously? What is this shit? There are several games I have that does this crap every single god damn time I launch the game! It means I have to wait around 2-5 minutes before I can actually play. Recently, however, I installed a game which really made me angry: Neverwinter Nights 2 Platinum. Okay so it's doing this shit... problem is, I had to wait 15 fucking minutes before the game finally launched! :O So I changed a few graphical settings... OH SHIT I NEED TO RESTART THE PROGRAM, NOW I HAVE TO WAIT ANOTHER FIFTEEN MINUTES!

Still waiting as I type this... #$^$#&^EG$%$

Where there is weird recurring problems with Steam, the solution is to close it, delete clientregistry.blob, reopen and log back in.

Seriously, that fixes 90+% of issues.

I hate nightmares that fill up the whole night, but turn out to be preferable to the real situation.

Or when you dream of something bad or big, and that thing has really happened, or will really happen. At least in the latter case, it serves as a reminder and warning of how to prepare for it.

Nash: I've never had those issues. The only time I have to wait before playing a game is when I've just installed it and it needs to install a specific prerequisite

Okay so I calmed down. Apparently its a known issue with NWN2 and I had to delete a "redist" directory inside the game's directory.

Still, I had to scour forums to find this information. Whatever happened to games that just ran.

Game's worth it, by the way. Not as good as Baldur's Gate (PC), but a very good RPG in its own right. :D

Deus Ex 3 and a lot of games that needed day 1 patches would disagree with you.

I'll rephrase Kinsies argument. They were released on consoles that have the ability to deliver patches.
