Well, if you played the games you may not like it. It's a bit like the Doom movie, it changes the plot a lot.

As a moderate SH fan, I can say that it definitely captures the spirit of it, unlike Doom. The sets, the monsters, the effects, everything is amazing, especially if you've played the games. Yeah, the story leaves a little to be desired, the climactic scene strays into Narm and crosses a few lines that didn't need to be crossed (barbed wire rape/enema, anyone?), but aside from that it's pretty good.

That ending was so great. All those times you see people do horrible things in movies and think "I HOPE THEY FUCKING GET IT ASASDSFSGSG" and they do it in this one with something nobody could ever see coming.

Re-installed Serious Sam so I can rip some of the textures. In the process found an old backup of my flight sim days.

I saw that one, that was a cool episode

I'm thinking of buying Doom 3 mostly so I can play the classic mod... good idea or bad idea?

I didn't like Doom 3 much cause it had an entirely different feeling then original doom.
If you just want to buy it so you can play 'classic' mod - why not just play classic doom?

same reason why I played KDIZD

EDIT - the doom 3 demo crashes every time on startup... that's not a good sign

Looks like Doom with Doom 3 graphics...
Still I'm not sure if it's worth buying Doom 3 just to play that mod. Doom 3 doesn't have that feel that original Doom had. Still maybe you like the feel of Doom 3, I don't but some people do. However if you just want Doom with enhanced graphics, get a model and hires texture pack and play with GZdoom.
