ZDoom's source code came from a program in 1993 during the MSDOS era, it sure has gone through a huge change in fundamentals and ideas of what is good code between then and 2016!

the sounds you hear are coming from the player position which happens to be left in the view

Can you not move the player sounds to the center of the camera? Although what you did physically makes sense, from a gameplay perspective it's weird because even if you're viewing the player from third person, you are still the player of the game and one would expect to hear their own head sounds coming from the center of the stereo field... just saying

Made a railgun hum sound, the first sound here. and tried it in pcem for some profiling-related reason (the cpu is being but through intense emulation torture)

The map felt too empty for how large the areas were. Not enough enemies.
On UV the monster placement was quite symmetrical.
Overall it's a nice simple map.
