Well, considering a strong lightning strike can probably obliterate metal...

80's games were somehow better and made sense, gotta agree.4thcharacter wrote:The only game I can think of where metal vs. electricity makes sense is the Mega Man series. Right there, metal actually beats electricity which makes sense because IRL they are conductors and can potentially screw with objects that are electrical in nature.
You seeing this, fire elemental lovers?

Yeah, lightning strikes that strong can obliterate just about anything else, except it's easier on metals because it "attracts".

i'm pretty sure that lightning have always been effective against robots or automatons in all the JRPGs i've played, which makes sense since the lightning could potentially fry the components and circuits inside the machine, right? and IRL there's the potential issue of static electricity doing the same to computer components if you haven't discharged yourself from static beforehand. i've never had a "metal being" (what types of metal beings are you referring to anyway?) be weak to fire in any game i've played.

Most steel-type pokemon, living armors from Castlevania in general. The latter are sometimes actually resistant to fire sometimes.

Re: The New What Did You Last Do Thread
I always assumed the fire resistance is because while metal can melt, its much harder to burn it than wood or flesh. Things like stone golems are also occasionally resistant to fire from my experience.

Always remember.
Anyway having real fun time with designing some characters for The Adventures of Square. Now it's finally breathing harder, i guess!

Just saw VirusTotal acting strange earlier. The layout changed drastically and it's functions doesn't work properly.
And at the bottom there's supposed to be informative links like contact, help, ToS, etc. but instead all you'll see is the word "stuff" in each column. I'm not kidding. Now it's fine again. I wonder what happened?

Presumably a web developer derped and brought an updated interface live prematurely, or accidentally put an earlier version, not the final one?

My grandmother just gave me an old Pentium II laptop. I was hesitant at first, but then I realized that it's probably good for DOS games, thus making it one of the more exciting gifts I've gotten in a while.
Hoping that it's using pre-NT Windows, though I recall from faint memories that it was using 2000. I'll have to boot it up later and find out!

98 with the right attitude doesn't even need a proper key to get through install, so it should be a cinch to change the OS over to 98 if need be.

Even if it's running Windows 2000, that still puts it more or less in line to run a lot of the more stubborn 95/98-era games that virtual machines don't like to play.cambertian wrote:My grandmother just gave me an old Pentium II laptop. Re: The New What Did You Last Do Thread
For some reason it always felt like I had a sign over my head that said "ignore this person/forget about this person/this person isn't important/etc." I could be telling a story and the people I'm talking to would interrupt me for something completely different right in the middle as though I wasn't even speaking. Someone could be looking for me at a party and never find me. People would be trying to do something nice and then completely forget about it. In fact, all of these things happened this last weekend (multiple times, actually).
I used to really resent this. Recently, though, I'm starting to see how useful it actually is. I was talking to someone I know about cybersecurity, ethical hacking, security testing and etc., and she said she totally believes I would be good at social engineering (the most useful tool in getting around security) because I'm polite and thoughtful, but not in an artificial way and I generally seem like a nice and genuine human being. With all this in mind, I decided to try to push the envelope a little bit.
So I was leaving the hotel after the convention on Sunday, and went to go pay for parking. The reader at the gate wouldn't take my card, so I parked again and went to go see if I could pay at the front desk. On my way over, I thought "hey, I wonder if I could talk my way into a discount." I explained to the concierge what happened; I put in the ticket, put in my voucher, put my card into the card reader, removed the card when the screen said to, and it said "bad read." I did this two or three times, so I decided to come in to pay.

Spoiler:Op success.
