just refined and echo'd the vanilla doom item pickup sound for my personal sound replacement mod that belongs to my skin folder.

NEWD SITE UP!?
also i do kind of miss the double toned item sounds. heretic had a faster higher pitched one, darkforces had a loud reverbed one, duke3d had a very charmingly aliased one, etc. then quake had to be that combobreaker with the TCHCKHCKKK noises

indeed i do miss that classic and stereotypical sounds, anyway the most decent version of them with high quality i ever heard is shadow warrior one. that one is probably better and cleaner than original one from duke3d.
anyway don't forget that hexen had that same type of those sounds, too. but sounds like instrumental.

Re: The New What Did You Last Do Thread
Weren't these the same sounds? That likely means they came from a generic collection. Perkristian sourced a few DN3D sounds a while back like he did with Doom ones, but it doesn't seem like he found that wonderful BUDOOP...leileilol wrote:Darkforces had a loud reverbed one, duke3d had a very charmingly aliased one, etc.

Been on a WinUAE fuelled Amiga nostalgia trip.
Spoiler:Damn, the Amiga was a helluva good machine for its time. I've been comparing a few games between their PC and Amiga versions and also just running some native Amiga games. The Amiga knocks spots off the PC every time, and it was a fraction of the price.

Re: The New What Did You Last Do Thread
The Amiga was alright as long as you ignore the whole "only one joypad button so you have to press up to jump" thing and the thousands of games from that period before international trade ships introduced continental Europe to the concept of gameplay.
FS-UAE is in my opinion the best emulator for actually playing games - you can automagically download per-game configuration files to take the pain out of figuring out which settings to use, it automatically supports Xbox controllers, it has a nice fancy alternate full-screen UI for TVs, and it uses the WinUAE emulator core. Combine that with the general lack of shits old Amiga developers typically give about people downloading their stuff nowadays, and you have a nice big goldmine to travel through. Just, uh, bring a few canaries, because most of the passageways are filled with fart gas.

Re: The New What Did You Last Do Thread
My general opinion of like 50% of the Amiga library is that, while it doesn't PLAY especially well, Amiga artists at least knew what the hell they were doing. Agony, Shadow of the Beast, Chaos Engine, and Cannon Fodder are some of the best-looking games of their time, IMO.

For me, one of the most amazing aspects of the Amiga was its sound. At a time when most PCs didn't even have a sound card and so bleeped and blooped their audio through the PC speaker, the Amiga was playing pretty good digitised sounds and module music in games.

Amiga music is one of my favorite kinds of music. I mean, how can you argue with tracks like this one?Enjay wrote:For me, one of the most amazing aspects of the Amiga was its sound. Re: The New What Did You Last Do Thread
Why is it always the middle button on a mouse that stops clicking properly
I think every mouse I've owned that has a middle mouse button has eventually had this problem. I'm not even sure my current mouse is 2 years old yet.
Edit: After locating receipt and asking Wolfram Alpha, I know that I've had the mouse for 1 year 6 months 30 days 23 hours 37 minutes 46 seconds.

Re: The New What Did You Last Do Thread
The ammo/weapon pickup sounds grate on me for some reason, so I replaced them with Quake 3's. Of course the mouth-noise gib sounds are about the worst thing in it, so those I swapped for nice meaty sounds from Hexen 2.leileilol wrote:then quake had to be that combobreaker with the TCHCKHCKKK noises

By pointing out the game wrapped around it. Amiga G&G was a stinker.wildweasel wrote:I mean, how can you argue with tracks like this one?
