If I remember correctly, the names of these "special" folders are set somewhere in the registry. Search the registry for "My Documents" and see what you find.

Be very careful changing anything, though, unless you are sure you know what you are doing.

somewhat related tip: click an icon and hit f2 to rename.

Not sure if this is what you are talking about, but I'll assume: Download things to desktop, and then put it into "Documents".

Everything still links to C:\Documents and Settings\Username\My Documents\, it's just that the desktop shows the new name.

I suppose I could edit the registry to make the complete change so the names would be consistent, but at this point I've got a 99.9% chance of missing something important that links to the old folder name that I might as well save this for in case I get a new computer and for whatever reason I'm still on XP.

Sheesh, does it really bother anyone that much and they can't sleep if they don't change the name of the documents folder?

I didn't see any arguing. Just discussing ways to correct a minor annoyance in Windows XP....

For that, there's TweakUI.

Er, to get back on topic, what was the last provider? LunarPages? If so, it makes sense. You're not the only one that got ripped off by them.

If it helps, SkullTag has just went through the exact same situation as Randy. So trust me, a little site and a wiki can not possibly utilize excessive resources*How that can even go past their gigabytes of space for you?!*, it's just all part of the rediculous scam that is LunarPages.

Anyone else not getting pop-up "you have PM" messages. My preferences are set to get them and my popup blockers allow them for this domain but no pm popup messages when I get sent a new message. I've left a couple sitting unnoticed for a while as a result.

This is a phpBB3 bug that has been fixed in RC8. If Randy upgrades to RC8 and it's still not working then try one of these:

  • Just visit your inbox folder by clicking here
  • Send a private message to yourself so phpBB3 RC8 can recalculate your private messages

Remember, this will only work after Randy has upgraded to phpBB3 RC8.
