Re: So little means so much

The "derailment" as is being referenced was a situation where a REAL LIFE PERSON needed rent money to escape an abusive husband who had taken her kids and home from under her, and a sim owner who had the option to actually tell the community they were trying to ask donations for, and inste...

Re: Someone FINALLY put an analog stick...

Thanks to the almost bog standard practice of including a rebinding driver management software, I can all but guarantee you those extra sticks can be just bound to buttons and used that way. They include one of those according to the campaign trailer.

Re: Linux is not actually newbie-friendly

That approach would work in Windows if Windows came with a compiler of some sort!

Someone FINALLY put an analog stick...

where the mouse thumb resides.

Not sure why they needed a SECOND joystick where you tilt the whole damn mouse, but as long as that thumb stick is usable, I'll be mega happy with it.

Re: The mystery of unavailable graphics cards

...currency only works if you have faith in it, (or is paper / plastic somehow worth a lot just because it has ink on it?) The American dollar was originally backed by the US treasury's back stock of gold bars. This stopped being the case at some point but at one point, the American dollar meant so...

Re: The mystery of unavailable graphics cards

You can't falsify it because it's cryptographically secure. That IS a value because it demonstrates a proof of concept. Edit: I am saying the technology Bitcoin itself uses is valuable. I'm not saying Bitcoin is valuable economically (the relation between actual economics and the blockchain record o...

Re: The mystery of unavailable graphics cards

So many people here keep saying bitcoin isn't anything at all.... if that's the case, go and invalidate everyone's Bitcoin! Bitcoin IS something- a running hash. The more you helped out finding it, the more you earned "from nothing" (you know, except that pesky electrical current needed to...

Re: Your arcade stories? (Old & new)

I've only seen someone build one of those fancy pinball emulator machines. Dude put some monitors in a pinball like table and loaded up Pinball FX2 and streamed it to the table so it looks like a real pinball machine. Not a bad idea honestly...

Re: Your arcade stories? (Old & new)

Someone listed one of those licensed Midway 12 in 1 arcade machines that were sold at Target on Craigslist for $100. I went and scooped it up thinking even if I wasn't satisfied with the actual machine I could gut it and put in a MAME arcade later. My experience getting it was already super shaky. I...

Re: Gaming skills.

Treat your openings like a book. Practice them until they are natural. Once there, you play your mid game like a magician. I know I'm kinda quoting a famous chess player here, but RTS is just chess in real time and a lot of the thinking is the same.

Re: Gaming skills.

When playing puzzle games, I generally just feel better knowing I'm not playing "Getting Over It" and keep trying to reevaluate what approach is not working for me.

Re: SNES DOOM oddities/discoveries

The only other thing I know is that overclocking the Super FX chip yields some interesting results, making the game more playable, and that there are some hardcore defenders of this game who genuinely think there's worth playing it today.
