Zdoom in the DooM movie's extras

Post by Nitus »

There's an extra that features a short history of Doom, featuring interviews with Carmack and other id personalities who were involved in Doom and Doom2.

Interspersed with these interviews are a bunch of rips from what's supposedly Doom or Doom2.

However, the resolution in these rips is quite high. At times it seems like it could be almost a Doom resolution - then you see menu text being cut off, and realize that it's actually zoomed in on a very high resolution rip. In other clips, it's very obviously running at at least 1024 x 768, maybe higher.

I guess there's no way to know if they used zdoom - but it clearly wasn't Doom or Doom2. In one sequence it appears to show one of the original demos, which might indicate PrBoom, but in that particular clip the resolution doesn't seem that high, so it could genuinely have been Doom that one time.

Does anyone have any information about that? I'm just assuming that the highres clips were taken in Zdoom, simply because it's the best-known port.

Who knows? It would be sort of neat if it was. Maybe you can contact the guys who made the mini movie.

if zdoom ever had a time where it didn't support translucent projectiles, then that may very well have been zdoom.

if not, then no that's not zdoom. the projectiles and explosions and stuff were clearly opaque.

A while ago on the news, there was some report about violent video games. This included Manhunt and Doom3. They spoke of the very beginning of gory videogames which included a clip of Doom2 being played... With mouselook and jumping, which looked alot zdoom. And it didn't look like any of the other ports out there either.

I saw something like that, except they were just playing the E1M5 demo. Low-res, probably just vanilla.
