change class cheat for hexen

Why is the changeclass cheat (shadowcaster [0-2]) disabled or does not exist? Is there anything that is better by not including this cheat? I don't think that disabling this cheat will make anything better but more worse. What is so good about not having this cheat?

Because it's much easier to not implement player class changing in the middle of the game. ZDoom doesn't handle them the same way Hexen did, so it can't be done the way Hexen did it. This is a cheat and has zero impact on normal gameplay.

How did you make Zdoom?

Did you based Heretic and Hexen off of Doom not their respective games? No wonder there are so many bugs in the heretic hexen games.

You know the Heresiarch battle in the third episode? You cannot fight him if you don't solve the puzzles in the other levels in that episode first right?

I saved the game as cleric just before the heresiarch battle. I want to do that battle as mage or fighter but I cannot change the cleric class to those two and I don't want to redo that episode with the other classes.

Is this something wrong or are you not going to fix this.

What happened to the gimme cheats? I cannot cheat to get 16 tomes or 16 wings in heretic.
Why are the messages in heretic and hexen doom messages not the messages of those games.

Those should be fixed last except for the gimme cheat and shadowcaster cheat in case someone wants to use it.

God, this is truly pathetic. Just because there's one cheat that can't be made to work easily with ZDoom's much more complex actor management doesn't justify questioning Randy's capabilities in such a rude manner. Remember, this is his forum so please treat him with respect.

I would also like to point out, in addition to all of this, that many things in ZDoom are now based of Hexen (Hexen map format, ACS, etc.) Also, Hexen works very well on most Operating Systems of today, so if you don't like it, play the origional. Oh yes, I almost forgot

So find out which scripts you need to activate the fight and puke them from the console. Pretty sure I've done that with that fight.

So what? It still does what it is supposed to. A number of years ago this was complained about on the phorum. There is no overwhelming need to change this. There is also the god console cheat if you want a slight variation.

Unless you use the far more powerful give or summon console commands of course.

Which ones? There are lots of messages.

Why should they? The effects of Gimme can be duplicated and you've had an explanation about shadowcaster.

And actually, the way you are asking, you shouldn't get anything you ask for other than a big cup of STFU.

Also, I think Randy seems to give old cheat codes (in all supported games) a fairly low priority - and why shouldn't he? They are additional things that are not part of the game and not necessary because nearly all their effects, and more, can be accomplished in far better and more flexible ways by using the console commands. All you have to do is ask nicely to find out what they are.

I threw the code into a big vat of voodoo and stirred thoroughly. Perhaps if I wasn't such a n00b, it would work better.

Oh! You got me! I completely guessed what Heretic and Hexen were like and picked what I thought were their closest analogues from Doom. That's why they play like Doom and not Heretic or Hexen.

No wonder there are so many bugs in the heretic hexen games.

Yep, there are sooooooo many bugs. I am ashamed. I should just remove support for those games entirely instead of pretending that they work essentially flawlessly.

Since you are cheating anyway, just puke the needed scripts. Or you could summon him from the console. Then you could fight him in every single map. In fact him, you could fight him 1000 times in every map! I bet that would be awesome!

I am sorry. It is horrible that you cannot cheat the way you want to. Instead of starting the game and having your hopes dashed when you reach the Heresiarch without your intended class, you should use the mdk command and kill him instantly. Then you won't have to worry about what class you fight him with because he will die instantly.

I hear that the console commands "summon" and "give" work quite well. You should try them sometime. I would suggest you try "give ArtiTomeOfPower 16" or "give ArtyFly 16", but I am such a n00b that I would probably be wrong. Maybe somebody else would like to give the correct commands.

Drat! I was hoping nobody would notice that the game said they were picking up shotguns when they walked over crossbows in Heretic. I'll have to change it so that the game says you're picking up crossbows when you walk over shotguns in Doom instead. I'm sure nobody would notice then. (Whoops! I just gave away my plan, now everybody is sure to notice a change like that!)
