In both versions 2.0.96 and 2.0.63, the flying mechanism for heretic and hexen sucks. For example, use the wings of wrath in zdoom then in the original heretic or hexen. Compare them. I don't know if this bug is intentional but I don't like it. I play hell's maw level in heretic, E1M8. I don't like myself ramming myself into the lava just to move forward while looking down. Can't you make the guy move straight forward like parallel to the ground instead of forward in the direction you are looking? It is not like the heretic or hexen guy is an eagle swooping or a divebomber or something. I have trouble killing Iron liches from the air because of that and I don't want to fly into their faces.

You fail it!

The change was intentional and you can be 100% certain that many more people will complain if it was changed.

To be honest - there is not much you can do about it. If you want to look down while moving in one direction, I recommend learning to strafe, but if this is the way Randy has coded the Wings of Wrath, its not a bug and won't be fixed.

Hold jump while moving forward. That works pretty well for me.

At least make it an option such as old heretichexen flying way or the zdoom flying way for those who like the old version better. The old way is better because it is easier to circle strafe while in the air.

The original heretic and hexen flies in any direction no matter where you are looking. To fly diagonally downward or upward, hold up and flydown or up or flyup together.

The zdoom way does not allow free movement of flight. This way takes away the parallel movement of the ground while looking down. Try beating the ironliches and try to circlestrafe in the air without moving like an airplane with turbulence. I tried the alt strafe button and I still ended up smashing my face into the ground. Holding jump while moving forward does not work that well. Maybe you are at the highest point in the level where you cannot fly higher anymore.

Do you people use mouse when you fly? I use keyboard and am proud of using it and the zdoom flying makes it harder for me to fly while using keyboard. You try zdoom, finishing E1M8 of heretic with a keyboard and try to do the hardest mode and beat all three ironliches and you will see.

BTW I don't have a control button on the right side of my laptop.

Asking that also means I will read this if you find the number pad on a laptop. I know where my enter key is. I don't have a control key on the right side of my laptop. I only have one on the left side so I cannot access the comma period strafe keys. I have to change them to z and x or something. go to a computer store and check out the toshiba A70 models and you will see. A laptop is not a desktop computer and the arrangement of the keys different. The enter key on a laptop may even be in a wierd spot compared to a standard desktop keyboard. If you are so smart, where is the window start button on the toshiba A70 laptop then.

the tilde button is at the bottom of my laptop not the top left corner of my keyboard. Stop assuming all keyboards are the same. Luckily I play heretic and hexen on my desktop computer, but my brother gets the unlucky break when he plays on the laptop.

Just my two cents here...

Some of us use the mouse, some don't, nobody complains about it, and some of us (not me) are so damn good at these games now that you could throw an obscure control system at them and they'd still make do easily.
