What exactly were you doing when the error happened?

Problem with STRAIN

Post by Joeyxp2 »

I was trying to play a wad I downloaded called STRAIN so I dragged it into ZDoom. Then it closed and showed me a pop up that was labeled Zdoom Very Fatal Error and it told me to e-mail the creator so he can fix the problem in the next version of ZDoom.

It appears that you are using version .63a. Have you tried using .96?

Downloading Next Version

Post by Joeyxp2 »

Thanks, I will try that. Version 0.96 seems to have come out recently so I haven't heard of it but now I do.

It still won't work, there's probably something wrong with the wad itself to make it not compatible with ZDoom.

Works for me - even without using the included DEH patch. The WAD you are using must be corrupt in some way.

Yeah, try getting the wad again and then give us a report.

Corrupted again

Post by Joeyxp2 »

I downloaded it from another site but this time it appears to be corrupt again. Because when I used Winrar to open the file it showed Unexpected end of archive even though I could unzip it. Can you tell me where I can download the file that isn't corrupted? I also need help getting Mordeth to work.

Both Strain and Mordeth are rather tricky to set up - I recall I had to spend about fifteen minutes installing it on my vanilla Doom 2 installation, then another 5 figuring out how to get the WAD and DEH to work in ZDoom.

As for Strain, it's a simple matter of just having vanilla Doom 2 in its own directory with the installer available at http://www.doomworld.com/idgames.

That's exactly where I found STRAIN from. I looked through DoomWorld top 100 wads and STRAIN was one of the wads that caught my eye. The file I downloaded from there was corrupted though. I can run Mordeth all right but where are the new monsters and the special effects like fog. It looks and feels like a regular Doom custom wad to me. Can you give me the steps to get it running? Thanks.

If you really want, I already have the pieces of STRAIN put together, so I could just send it to you somehow. I don't see any harm in it. And this way you wouldn't have to go through installing Doom 2 if you don't already have it installed, just to put the file together.
