Question marks instead of monsters?

Post by OrezMooD »

How can I get monsters to show?

EDIT: There's something about the BOTS.cfg in the messages. What do I do?!

In-game, question marks show up for things not defined for that game. Are you playing the same IWAD (doom, doom2, heretic, hexen...) that corresponds to the monster type you used?

Edit - the bots message probably has nothing to do with the monster issue, you may have a zcajun (bot) folder but no bots.cfg file in it. Won't be a problem unless you want the bots.

....IWAD? I have Doom2.wad, is that it?

So THAT's what bots.cfg is for! I thought it was a useless file!

That shouldn't be an issue though, since that file is not required to run the game....

The question is, what did you do to get the question marks? (list of WADs, command line etc.)

Nothing! I have the WADs set up so that they will launch in ZDooM when I click on them!

You need to give people a little clue here. There are literally thousands of possibilities of things you could be trying to run, or add to the command line...

What launcher are you using (there are many)? Sounds like you have associated Zdoom with wads instead (which is fine). So how have you set that up?

What IWADs are in your Zdoom directory (sounds like only Doom2.wad - which is fine, but just checking)?

What additional wads are you trying to load?

Have you added anything else on to the command line?

What Zdoom version?

Any other info you think might help?

Thanks! Now I can (hopefully) play the WAD!
EDIT: OK, now how can I get the WAD open from the console?

WADs cannot be opened from the console. They need to be added to the command line you use to start the game - which includes, but is not limited to, dragging and dropping them onto the exe's icon.
