Most useless ZDoom feature?

Post by Cutmanmike »

What's the one thing in ZDoom you've NEVER seen used? The one that makes you think "Wow why'd they bother to put it in there to begin with?".

I'm going to go with the movie stuff. Apparently it doesn't even work anymore and i've not seen or heard of one single wad that uses movies.

Definitely. I'm all for throwing it out. The code doesn't work with GZDoom and it wouldn't surprise me the least if the D3D based GFX interface ZDoom uses now would have the same result.

Ok I think everyone's going to say that so uh... second most useless?! ;)

I'm gonna go with A_Mushroom. It's neat looking and was cool for it's time (dehacked?) but it's next to useless and for me, it seems to always hang as the explosion is made.

Too many mods already use A_Mushroom for it to be removed now.

I'd have to say A_Detonate. What? Same damage and radius? USELESS.

[wiki]Intermission_script[/wiki]

I've never seen a custom sprite-based intermission screen like E1/E2/E3.

But I don't think 'why did they bother?' applies here.

I think it's just itching to be used eventually, now that you said it. ;)

Risen wins. I really didn't see a need for it... it could have just been left hard-coded. If mod authors wanted to create fancy intermissions stuff, there are so many means available to do it (look at KDiZD for example).

Also, maybe [wiki]TEXTCOLO[/wiki], though I can certainly see the usage potential in GZDoom.
