icon of defender weapon flash

Post by SargeBaldy »

Weapons seem to flash on and off when using Icon Of The Defender (in 56.cab) This only appears to happen when playing cleric.

Isn't that because that item has different effects for different players? IE, for the fighter it makes you invincible, for the cleric it makes you invisible, for the mage I just forgot what it does?

No, in Hexen.exe it switches back and forth between transparent and non-transparent. In ZDoom it seems to switch back and forth between transparent and invisible.

I think the icon makes the cleric like a ghost sort of, projectiles will not hurt him when he's solid and pass through him when he's invisible/translucent. The mage I think reflects projectiles and the fighter just gets hit without taking damage... never played it with hexen.exe tho heh (these are from memory of some weird faq I wrote a while ago tho, I might be wrong)

Yeah they are different for each class but the cleric effect is different than it was in Hexen now and looks rather awful to me. Bad enough that I thought it was an error and compared how it looks against hexen.exe anyway.

In Hexen, the cleric flashes in and out of visibility, but his weapon from his view is always at least partially visible. In other words, the cleric's view of himself lies about how he looks to others. In ZDoom, it tells the truth.

oh, well maybe they did that just because it looks so bad when your view is "honest".

Not anymore! ;)

I have to agree that 'honesty' in this case is rather counterproductive. Besides, with magic involved the player should still be able to see at least some of himself. :P

As such I have changed this to draw the weapon sprite with at least 25% translucency when the cleric is invulnerable.
