WAD Suggestion - A Small Town in a wad

Post by stx »

I think a "Small Town" wad would be a good idea.. a Wad with a lot of space.. a small settlement town with houses you can enter.. maybe a store with bullets and items and powerups concealed by a key-locked door. Monsters inside abandoned buildings.. maybe a nice yard up town with a pool you can swim in...and probably a really old house that has a old floor that collapses if you step on a certain spot.. and the basement is filled with monsters and demons that was near-impossible to get out, Maybe a Movie Theater showing an Animated Texture.

And as for Maps/levels, Keep the same town. but make it something like.. a different Map, a different day in the same town, maybe with a little different plot.

How to beat a level.. In your house will be a locked door with your bed inside, If you complete the mission, the door becomes open, and if you touch the bed, the level is complete.

That would PWN

Not a bad idea at all, i'd love to help in something like that, but I have no mapping/ACS skills. But I must concur.

Ditto.
I haven't made one map, let alone even tried.

There will be tons of stuff like this in WWE. The teaser will feature several of these things, as well.

Woe Without End. It's my current project, my first and possibly last one, too. Read about it on several threads on the editing forum, including Woe Without End and THE GRAND PLAN (which is a couple pages back, I think.)

Take a look at street.wad, it's somewhat along these lines.

Here's a copy: http://home.earthlink.net/~mjblakely/

Look in the data folder.

I've seen many wads that do this sort of thing. I've made one myself, as the start of SCOURGE. However, instead of your story line we have this series of events:

@You start off in a bus shelter outside your house. The section of street you are on has broken off and sunk a little, there are monsters around and you don't have your house key.

@You go into the subway station that is just across the road from you, once you've cleared out the section of street.

@You fight your way through the subway station and find your key at the 'end' (where the stairs up to the station severed and sank away). You'd dropped it as you ran for your house from the train, during the earthquake that sunk your section of street. (Which you don't experience, as it's a DEU2 wad, made with jumping in mind).

@You run back and go into your house, to see that you can't get upstairs, as they are gone. You turn left into your kitchen. there you see the hanging corpse of your wife, surrounded by demons and a glowing hell portal broken into the wall.

@You clear the room and run into the portal, the level ends.

Paranormal Episode IV is going to mainly take place in a city.

But if you want someone to make a map like the one you describe, you might as well study how to map and DIY. And remember, NEVER say that you can't map. There's always room for improvement. Some people believe that they can never improve but I seriously think, because I once thought the same way, that there is always a chance to improve if you practice and know what you're doing. You just have to know the basics and all...

I was thinking of eventually making a city type map in zdoom64. But it will not be small by any means.

I constantly learn things while creating my mod. I know all about ACS, decorate, mapping, etc. I even learned how modify the source somewhat to do what I wanted it to for zdoom64.

If you want to make good levels learn how to make sectors right the first time, DRAW THE FRIGGIN THING BEFORE YOU START, then slave away at it.

The closest thing I've seen to this is Cyber-Menace's MAP32 in DTCA. I can't remember if it was included in the demo wad or not...
